The nature of DeWitt/Dominic was asked at Echo-2

penikitty wrote a write-up about Echo-2, and someone asked OW and RD about Dewitt and Dominic. Which led to the revelation that Olivia Williams watches DeWitt/Dominic fanvids on youtube.

Okay, so during Fran and Olivia's talk someone asked Olivia what she thought the relationship was between Adelle and Dominic. Olivia got really excited and said "Are you the person that's made those amazing videos?" and the person said that no, she wasn't. Olivia then got extremely animated and excited and explained to us, and Fran, that there was a series of amazing videos on youtube set to music about Adelle/Dominic and that she watched them A LOT and they always make her happy.

I thought it was dollsome at first, but it turns out to be the great Ohsoleil. WORSHIP AT HER FEET. (I cannot link to her other vids because Youtube is blocking them. *shakes fist at youtube*)

The answer to the question is--

Yes she did answer and so did Reed. They both said they didn't see it as a romantic relationship. Reed said that he thought Dominic saw her as his queen and that he would do anything to protect her and their kingdom.

Thoughts? Personally, I love it that Reed said that he thinks Dominic sees Adelle as his queen. ♥♥♥



ETA: A question for you to ponder on: did you see DeWitt/Dominic as a romantic relationship? Yes? No? How did you see it and why?

I can't believe it's been two years since Adelle sucked Dominic's brain out and irony_rocks, in her infinite wisdom, decided that was a fine basis to start a shipping comm. BEST.

And, yeah, I totally agree that 'romantic' is not exactly the best word to label these guys with -- except pre-"Spy In The House Of Love," at which point they were incredibly romantic in a classical sense if not a makeouty sense. 'Cause, ya know. HIS QUEEN. WOULD DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT HER AND THEIR KINGDOM. (Also, I know it's dorky, but I so dig how that suggests that Dominic wasn't secretly rolling his eyes & hating on Adelle even if he was a spy who did not approve of what the Dollhouse was up to. Fanon interpretation, validated!)

Did Reed say anything about what he thought Dominic's fate might have been, or anything about why he kind of just disappeared & we never got to hear more about him, or WHY HE WAS NOT IN THE DANG FINALE? (Not that this continues to haunt me or anything.) Did Olivia say anything about what she thought Adelle thought of Dominic? So many questions in my brain now!

Reed was asked about what he think happened to his character. He said since he was in Epitaph 1 he knows he lived and would like to think that he continued being a badass. He commented loads on what a fun character he was to play and how it's any boys dream to run around playing with guns and beating people up.

I don't think Olivia said anything about what she thought.

I have been trying to find if anyone took notes from the talks so I can give you actual quotes but I'm not having any luck so far :/

And, okay, big rambly answer! What a surprise, from me.

I think D/D is romantic in its framework even if they were never intended to have romantic feelings for each other in canon. Just the visuals of having him devotedly by her side, ready to fight to protect her and her interests, is very romantic in a classic, chivalric, queen-and-consort way. (Which may or may not have already been mentioned once or twice in this ship's history. Or this post's history. ;D)

I think the post-betrayal stuff has romantic undertones, too, just because it amps up the tension between them so much, and usually in a way that involves the invasion of personal space. :D And her reaction to his betrayal was very full of feelings; I think that they were at least very work married and there was a lot of comfort and trust and reliability in that dynamic. Now I want to make weird The Remains of the Day comparisons. Repression and work marriages, sigh! And I will always think there is some symbolic tie between Roger and Dominic. (The man she knew wasn't real and the man she believed was! Or ... something like that, but less lame-sounding.)

So, basically, I think that the impulse to view their relationship in a romantic context is extremely understandable, because it just plain seems traditionally presented that way -- which is why I think it's compelled us all so much, and inspired a remarkably large amount of fic. SO MUCH SUBTEXT. I totally blame my English majory brain; there is something about this ship that really makes you want to prove it's there.

It actually reminds me of a slash ship, in a way, like Dean/Castiel or House/Wilson; I think it's sort of rare for a heterosexual pairing to have that much attention paid to its minutia. Which is extremely cool in & of itself.

HOLY CRAP Y'ALL.

So I haven't been in LJ recently because, well, idek, real life is a motherfucker and I'm getting old. But like, there's been this ~longing, yo. A longing deep in the old coat pockets of my ~soul to be involved in a fandom again. BUT NOT JUST ANY FANDOM OH NO. It would have to be as frakkin' BAMF as the DeWitt/Dominic fandom. And that's kind of hard to live up to, you know?

THEN, THIS HAPPENED. I wake up to see the most fantastic, awe-some, splendiferous news! Olivia watches D/D fanvideos! Reed sees her as his queen! Imma callin' shenanigans on the "They both said they didn't see it as a romantic relationship" line, kids. I think that once you admit to watching fanvids on youtube, something's gotta be up. ;) Or maybe by "romantic relationship" they mean that they were ~having feelings~ but never boning elevator, which, as sad as that would be, is actually moderately plausible.

Don't worry. Certainly, don't panic. All this comm and the other two you call out mean is that some people were inspired and moved by their performances (and think they should've gotten more screen time, maybe in someone's bedroom). What actor is going to be put off by having people actually care about the people they've created?
