It's what I find funny (and scary) about OW sometimes. She googles herself and she watches youtube vids. She watches D/D vids. Dear god. I sometimes fear the day she discovers the comm. The thought of OH MAH LAWD. SHOULD WE LOCK THE COMMS?! comes to mind. trololol

I love the picture I get of Olivia Williams sitting at her computer, flailing over DeWitt/Dominic videos on YouTube because, you know, it's what I do. Olivia and I are so alike! Ha ha. I can only imagine her reaction if she ever found this (glorious) community.

And the thought of Dom thinking of Adelle as his queen, doing anything & everything to protect their kingdom. YES. THIS. FOREVER. ♥ (Also, I would like to point out, in his answer he said THEIR kingdom. You really don't think of them as romantic, Reed? Hmm? They totally could have gotten there, after the apocalypse happened. Which brings us back to D/D being the world's overlords, just sayin'.)

Given the party line as spoken by both actors, all I can say that the simmering subtext is a tribute to the chemistry they had on the show.

Hahahahaha, Olivia + fanvids = amazing! The internet has made fandom such a surreal place over the past couple years; it's still so weird to me that with stuff like twitter and youtube, the actors can access the fandomy stuff just as easily as the fans can! Mind, BLOWN.

This is the type of thing that should have been included in the DVD... just saying. I'm actually thrilled that they don't see it as a romantic relationship (question: did we see it as a romantic relationship? I thought we saw it as two insanely attractive people who work really well together, who also wanted to fuck each other but can't because they work really well together?)

The ship's so small and it's basically founded on subtext (eyesex, powerwalks, murr) that we're just really joyously happy when we get things like these.

And, okay, big rambly answer! What a surprise, from me.

I think D/D is romantic in its framework even if they were never intended to have romantic feelings for each other in canon. Just the visuals of having him devotedly by her side, ready to fight to protect her and her interests, is very romantic in a classic, chivalric, queen-and-consort way. (Which may or may not have already been mentioned once or twice in this ship's history. Or this post's history. ;D)

I think the post-betrayal stuff has romantic undertones, too, just because it amps up the tension between them so much, and usually in a way that involves the invasion of personal space. :D And her reaction to his betrayal was very full of feelings; I think that they were at least very work married and there was a lot of comfort and trust and reliability in that dynamic. Now I want to make weird The Remains of the Day comparisons. Repression and work marriages, sigh! And I will always think there is some symbolic tie between Roger and Dominic. (The man she knew wasn't real and the man she believed was! Or ... something like that, but less lame-sounding.)

So, basically, I think that the impulse to view their relationship in a romantic context is extremely understandable, because it just plain seems traditionally presented that way -- which is why I think it's compelled us all so much, and inspired a remarkably large amount of fic. SO MUCH SUBTEXT. I totally blame my English majory brain; there is something about this ship that really makes you want to prove it's there.

It actually reminds me of a slash ship, in a way, like Dean/Castiel or House/Wilson; I think it's sort of rare for a heterosexual pairing to have that much attention paid to its minutia. Which is extremely cool in & of itself.

I truly think Dominic was created as the right-hand man and Echo's nemesis but they didn't really think he would be the spy until the pilot was re-hauled (he was supposed to only appear during the pilot... which is insane, thinking about it... good thing Joss loved him). I also don't think they expected the awesome UST that seemed to have radiated from the characters.

Now I want to make weird The Remains of the Day comparisons. Repression and work marriages, sigh!

A longing deep in the old coat pockets of my ~soul to be involved in a fandom again. BUT NOT JUST ANY FANDOM OH NO. It would have to be as frakkin' BAMF as the DeWitt/Dominic fandom. And that's kind of hard to live up to, you know?

I think that once you admit to watching fanvids on youtube, something's gotta be up. ;) Or maybe by "romantic relationship" they mean that they were ~having feelings~ but never boning elevator, which, as sad as that would be, is actually moderately plausible.

Ok, after having time to think on this, I suppose my take on neither saw it as a romantic relationship is time senstive. I apologize if someone else has said this b/c I haven't read everything.

It isn't a romantic relationship right now. Doesn't mean neither want it to be, wish it could be, think of it being late at night when they're alone and don't want to be, etc.

Hence the eye sex, violations of personal space and power walking as though they were doing the tango. Hence Boyd Langton being made of fail with regard to power walking. Hence many more things too numerous to mention but you all know what they are.

Someone (dollsome????) compared them to Dean/Castiel and I can see that.

Yeah, I agree! Honestly, I think that if the show had gone on, and there wasn't that incredible pressure to hurtle the plot forward as quickly as possible, they would have hooked up sooner or later. I JUST BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. There was so much going on in that relationship, and could we truly expect Joss to hold out on an angry hate sex scene? Joss??

More thoughts. We've heard from the actors, but what about the creator, sometimes writer, occasional director? Joss Whedon wrote and directed Man on the Street--the episode with the infamous elevator "She loves him" scene. They looked at each other like they did and Joss didn't say, "Cut! Did you fall and hit your heads! Why are you looking at each other like that?" Evidently not. He used the footage. And all the powerwalking and such. And in Getting Closer, his farewell to Dominic, he included the powerwalking and elevator and all those good things that they did together (communicating without talking, etc.)

So ... Joss might have had a different take. More food for thought or just ramblings? Not sure.

I'd be curious to know what Joss, Jed, and Maurissa thought! Of course, with exactly this in mind I listened to the commentary tracks for the Big D/D Scenes in "Man on the Street" and "Epitaph One" -- and all both talked about was Mr. Dominic's fondness for suits. Thwarted!

In fairness, his suits are pretty legendary.

Hahahahaha, I LOVE THIS! As far as the canon show goes, no I don't think it was written as romantic, but of course the groundwork was laid. I agree with just about everyone at this comm, haha- of COURSE they would have gotten together if the show had run 5 seasons. Absolutely!!!

This may be over-thinking (me? over-think? how surprising!), but I have to wonder if Olivia is including dollsome's fanvids in the series of vids she watches (repeatedly XD). Because OhSoliel has made 2 D/D fanvids, and while awesome, 2 is not exactly a series. And fanvids are like potato chips (inadvertent Echoes reference ftw), you can't watch just one. So I have to think that she watched the ones in the sidebar too. Repeatedly. LOL. I love that :D
