The nature of DeWitt/Dominic was asked at Echo-2
[livejournal.com profile] penikitty wrote a write-up about Echo-2, and someone asked OW and RD about Dewitt and Dominic. Which led to the revelation that Olivia Williams watches DeWitt/Dominic fanvids on youtube.

Okay, so during Fran and Olivia's talk someone asked Olivia what she thought the relationship was between Adelle and Dominic. Olivia got really excited and said "Are you the person that's made those amazing videos?" and the person said that no, she wasn't. Olivia then got extremely animated and excited and explained to us, and Fran, that there was a series of amazing videos on youtube set to music about Adelle/Dominic and that she watched them A LOT and they always make her happy.

I thought it was [livejournal.com profile] dollsome at first, but it turns out to be the great Ohsoleil. WORSHIP AT HER FEET. (I cannot link to her other vids because Youtube is blocking them. *shakes fist at youtube*)

The answer to the question is--

Yes she did answer and so did Reed. They both said they didn't see it as a romantic relationship. Reed said that he thought Dominic saw her as his queen and that he would do anything to protect her and their kingdom.

Thoughts? Personally, I love it that Reed said that he thinks Dominic sees Adelle as his queen. ♥♥♥

ETA: A question for you to ponder on: did you see DeWitt/Dominic as a romantic relationship? Yes? No? How did you see it and why?

More thoughts. We've heard from the actors, but what about the creator, sometimes writer, occasional director? Joss Whedon wrote and directed Man on the Street--the episode with the infamous elevator "She loves him" scene. They looked at each other like they did and Joss didn't say, "Cut! Did you fall and hit your heads! Why are you looking at each other like that?" Evidently not. He used the footage. And all the powerwalking and such. And in Getting Closer, his farewell to Dominic, he included the powerwalking and elevator and all those good things that they did together (communicating without talking, etc.)

So ... Joss might have had a different take. More food for thought or just ramblings? Not sure.

I'd be curious to know what Joss, Jed, and Maurissa thought! Of course, with exactly this in mind I listened to the commentary tracks for the Big D/D Scenes in "Man on the Street" and "Epitaph One" -- and all both talked about was Mr. Dominic's fondness for suits. Thwarted!

In fairness, his suits are pretty legendary.

I loved Joss' comment at that point. That Dom was a bit of a dandy and liked to dress well and that that just flew in the face of everything else in his character. That interested me.

If I had to guess, it was a back pocket sort of thing that they could've/would've/should've pulled out whenever they needed/wanted it. Nothing says they weren't, so .......

Murr. The DVD commentary about his suits (and Adelle's clothes, and how they love Reed and Olivia ♥). Laurence Dominic is a fashion icon, yo.

I actually love that the ~farewell we got from Joss and Co for Dominic was him being a badass with Adelle + the classic stuff that makes up the foundation of our ship. It's as though they've been lurking in the community.

/creepy

And yeah, I wish we get something from the Whedons. But at the same time, not really because I don't want to be shot down like an F-15E in Afghanistan.

/horrible simile
