The nature of DeWitt/Dominic was asked at Echo-2
[livejournal.com profile] penikitty wrote a write-up about Echo-2, and someone asked OW and RD about Dewitt and Dominic. Which led to the revelation that Olivia Williams watches DeWitt/Dominic fanvids on youtube.

Okay, so during Fran and Olivia's talk someone asked Olivia what she thought the relationship was between Adelle and Dominic. Olivia got really excited and said "Are you the person that's made those amazing videos?" and the person said that no, she wasn't. Olivia then got extremely animated and excited and explained to us, and Fran, that there was a series of amazing videos on youtube set to music about Adelle/Dominic and that she watched them A LOT and they always make her happy.

I thought it was [livejournal.com profile] dollsome at first, but it turns out to be the great Ohsoleil. WORSHIP AT HER FEET. (I cannot link to her other vids because Youtube is blocking them. *shakes fist at youtube*)

The answer to the question is--

Yes she did answer and so did Reed. They both said they didn't see it as a romantic relationship. Reed said that he thought Dominic saw her as his queen and that he would do anything to protect her and their kingdom.

Thoughts? Personally, I love it that Reed said that he thinks Dominic sees Adelle as his queen. ♥♥♥

ETA: A question for you to ponder on: did you see DeWitt/Dominic as a romantic relationship? Yes? No? How did you see it and why?

Now my brain is telling me it might have been an historical figure and not a literary one :/ I've tweeted him and asked, you never know I might get a response!

QUEEN ELIZABETH AND ROBERT DUDLEY.

... and, okay, I'm only saying that because there's all that speculation in movies & Philippa Gregory books and stuff that they totally got it on. My reasons: profound & intellectual!

Alternately: the ancient Egyptian D/D? (http://derevko-child.livejournal.com/271943.html) Hehehe.

WELL DONE! Ahahaha, man, Twitter kind of still blows my mind. Oh, internet!

Sir Francis Walsingham (c. 1532[1] – 6 April 1590) was Principal Secretary to Elizabeth I of England from 1573 until 1590, and is popularly remembered as her "spymaster".

HEE.

Yes, spymaster, that's what he kept saying and it's just the most perfect description!

Dominic being a spy himself makes this comparison difficult for me, but maybe it does hold if he had gone a bit native. Either way, it's an interesting observation/comparison.

Do you ever sleep?

The going native thing helped me make sense of the Walsingham reference. Elizabeth I fetched him back from exile (in Germany I think) to advise her and I was having trouble with all the "You have no idea how naive you are" stuff from DH until I realized that that's the tack an experienced advisor might take with a young headstrong queen (Adelle might not be young but she certainly qualifies as headstrong.

Yes, I do sleep. But last night, I stole wifi from our neighbor and slept at 3.30 AM. I then woke up at 8.30 AM because... I have no idea why. lol.

Headstrong is an understatement. XD

Hmmm, I see what you mean, but even though Dominic was a spy he wasn't actually out to hurt or destroy Adelle or the House so in a very real sense he did act as her spymaster by protecting her and her interests and making sure no outside influence could cause harm

I realized later that the sticking point for me was the conversation Dominic and Adelle had after he was exposed as a spy when he goes on the offensive (telling her how naive she is and how Ballard would've found them already if it wasn't for him and so on) until I realized that that brand of tough love (so to speak) wouldn't go amiss between a spymaster/queen.
