Celebration Week - Day 4 - Discussion Time!
Hey everyone!

I've provided a list of questions just to get the discussion flowing! These include both questions about D/D and those about the series as a whole.

Enjoy!

(I've also included a link to the shipper manifesto that I did for the D/D Celebration Week in 2010, in case anyone wanted a refresher. http://dewitt-dominic.livejournal.com/122220.html#comments)

D/D Questions

1) Do you have any head canons towards the D/D relationship? Are any of them supported by canon in anyway?
2) When did you first start shipping Dom/Adelle?
3) How do you think the D/D relationship developed throughout the series? Do you think they devoted enough time to it? Was it better being subtle rather than overt?
4) How do you think things developed between D/D after the thoughtpocalypse?
5) What were your favourite D/D moments in the series? Your favourite Adelle moments? Your favourite Dominic moments?
6) Is there anything that you wanted to see happen in regards to Dom and Adelle (either together or separately) that didn’t?

General Questions Regarding the Series

7) Is there anything that happened on-screen or off-screen that you wanted more focus on? Consequently, is there anything on-screen that you felt had too much focus and more attention should have been devoted elsewhere? Is there anything that you wanted covered that didn’t get covered?
8) When watching the series for the first time, how did you find the plot twists? Where did you think the series was heading plot-wise? What did you think was going to happen?
9) What was your favourite aspect about the show? (ie: characters, the engagements, the overarching plot, etc)
10) Who, in your opinion, had the most interesting character arc?

Discussion Day, yay! (the post is locked :( Also, we're in day 4? lol)

D/D Questions

1) Do you have any head canons towards the D/D relationship? Are any of them supported by canon in anyway?
lol. I think they were just restraining themselves to be professional and that's what kept them from not giving in to their ~obvious attraction to each other. In the case of Dom, there's probably also the complication of him being a spy, and in my headcanon, all the permutations of his exit strategy, always had Adelle figured in it. And that was the reason why he asked her in 1.06 if she had an exit strategy-- because if she had said no, it wouldn't be a problem because he has one for this kind of problem.

2) When did you first start shipping Dom/Adelle?

This is one of the instances where I first shipped subconsciously-- I found them really pretty together in 1.02, which kinda piqued in 1.05 ("Take the stairs" and I was all 'hmmm'), but it wasn't until 1.07 where I really realized what I'm doing (I really thought the ep I downloaded had cut scenes because seriously, why were they so awkward around each other in the end). Then 1.09 happened and the rest is history.

3) How do you think the D/D relationship developed throughout the series? Do you think they devoted enough time to it? Was it better being subtle rather than overt?
I think the subtext was there, but I don't think it was supposed to be read exactly that way? Although from the RD's podcast, there's bits of our interpretation already in the subtext because of his take on Dominic. I think they didn't have the time to devote to the ~pair~ because of what happened in 1.09 + RL considerations, but if they had time to address the thing going on with the two characters, they would have taken a very subtle approach to it.

4) How do you think things developed between D/D after the thoughtpocalypse?
There was probably reconciliation and progression in their relationship. If they could be buddies with Alpha, they could be buddies with Dominic. Although the shipper part of me thinks that Adelle wouldn't have thought of dying with Topher if Dominic is still alive. I don't think he's dead, but Adelle probably thinks he's dead.

5) What were your favourite D/D moments in the series? Your favourite Adelle moments? Your favourite Dominic moments?
My most fave would be the scene in Getting Closer, when they were in Rossum HQ. They were just so in sync and complementary and the smirk they gave Echo when the elevator doors close. It was awesome. Also, the meeting room scene in Needs. I also liked that bit in Briar Rose-- they were in sync even though Dominic was high on drugs. THEY'RE SO AWESOME

My favorite Adelle moments were mostly in season 1 (because BAMF with gr9 hair). She was quite badass after the events of 2.09 but I probably liked everything about Adelle in 2.11-2.12. It's like, she got her pre-1.09 mojo back. Even her hair became awesome.

My favorite Dominic moment, aside from the entirety of The Attic was in 1.06, when he slapped Hearn in the head for trying to ~flirt~ with Adelle. Also, probably all of his scenes in 1.04 and the 2.11

6) Is there anything that you wanted to see happen in regards to Dom and Adelle (either together or separately) that didn’t?
I would have wanted more eyesex. Also, indication that Dominic was alive in E2. Like, a simple throwaway line that "he's picking up vegetables in the backyard" or "we just got word back from Dominic, he'll be meeting you in LA" or something like that. WE JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF HE'S ALIVE.

But yeah, more eyesex. And if the series had gone longer, maybe flashbacks to how Dominic got to the LA Dollhouse, how Adelle got to Rossum. Backstories and shiznit.

I wish we had more of a glimpse on the fall of Adelle DeWitt. We just got the "she's now in the bottom". I wanted to see how it happened, if she fought it, etc. Why didn't she leave musings, etc. Actually, the entire Meet Jane Doe episode should have been stretched out to two separate parts, one for the Dollhouse and the other ep for the complete evolution of Echo?

8) When watching the series for the first time, how did you find the plot twists? Where did you think the series was heading plot-wise? What did you think was going to happen?

I didn't pay much attention to the first five eps tbqh and I didn't see the Echo glitch in 1.06, nor the Mellie reveal (although I knew that Hearn was going to die?). I did not see Boyd-as-the-Big-Bad coming though (total feeling of betrayal, that was). The Adelle-is-secretly-not-evil plot was something I knew was going to happen but that was because I stanned Adelle so much and I didn't want Echo to be ~better than her (I'm sorry that I'm not sorry about this loooooool)

9) What was your favourite aspect about the show? (ie: characters, the engagements, the overarching plot, etc)

I liked the aspect of Echo finding her self (even though, imo, it was poorly executed?). I liked the character evolutions and the way they rebelled from system they're in? Which is why I didn't really like Paul's initial arc-- he was an outsider trying to dismantle the "evil" from the outside. From the way the plot was structured, Rossum is something that should be destroyed by someone from the inside, someone who has experienced it first hand.

10) Who, in your opinion, had the most interesting character arc?

Topher had the most interesting arc then followed by Adelle.

I've re-read your Shipper Manifesto and I want to cry. I miss these two and the fandom so much. huhuhu

Thanks for the heads-up about the locked post, I didn't even notice. All fixed :)

I never really realise just how much I miss Dollhouse until I start talking about it or watch an episode.

I kinda like that D/D was all in the subtext and little moments, I feel like so much more could be done with them fandom-wise and I really liked all the discussion that it prompts. Although, yes, I totally agree, I definitely could have done with more eye-sex. And I definitely believe that he had an exit plan for her for when things went south and I felt like that was cemented when Reed stated his opinion about their relationship (that he'd do anything for her.)

I totally agree with you (about basically everything!) but I really did want more time to be focused on the fall of Adelle and how Rossum became such a large presence in the LA Dollhouse with Harding. It was really interesting to see all the changes that occurred just in the three months but I really wanted to see what happened in those three months with Adelle and her crew.

I loved the plot twists too. I'm normally pretty good with them but I definitely did not see the Mellie-as-a-doll coming nor the Boyd as the Big Bad (which I am still so sad about, which means Kudos to JW and team. Boyd was such a good guy!)

Thanks for re-reading my manifesto! <3

1) Do you have any head canons towards the D/D relationship? Are any of them supported by canon in anyway? I think Dominic studied Adelle carefully both before he arrived and while he was at the Dollhouse. I base this on the way they moved together and often mirrored each other. I believe he'd gone a bit native but couldn't get past watching attractive young people reduced to doll state over and over again. He wanted the same thing Echo did--to free them but he couldn't. I choose to believe this manifested itself as contempt.

2) When did you first start shipping Dom/Adelle? Dominic interested me from the first and it seemed that Adelle and he were well matched. I had moments where I hated her after 1.09. First for no Dom and later because she wasted a potential asset.

3) How do you think the D/D relationship developed throughout the series? Do you think they devoted enough time to it? Was it better being subtle rather than overt? Their relationship was well-established when the series began. She shortened his leash after he tried to set Echo on fire but still the smooth working relationship and trust was there. They didn't devote enough time to it, but the actors brought a lot to the table and gave us a lot to sink our teeth into. These two don't do overt, unless it suits their purposes or until backed into a corner.

4) How do you think things developed between D/D after the thoughtpocalypse? Road Trip and Pointless Yet Comforting and it's sequel are two different takes. The Alpha-Dominic-Adelle smut piece is another. A fourth is coming later this week. I think they forge some sort of relationship, because it's foolish to hold a grudge in that world.

5) What were your favourite D/D moments in the series? Your favourite Adelle moments? Your favourite Dominic moments? D/D--the elevator scenes. Adelle--Her dealing/not dealing with grief over her friend/the fate of Laurence Dominic in 1.10. And the creepy yet kind of sexy way in which she questioned Victor imprinted as Dominic.

6) Is there anything that you wanted to see happen in regards to Dom and Adelle (either together or separately) that didn’t? I wanted to KNOW Dominic was alive at the end of the story. However, given the fate of all of the men except Victor, maybe I should be careful what I wish for. I would've liked Adelle to have a moment when she obviously wanted to consult with Dom after she'd put him into the Attic. Wouldn't have minded seeing Adelle in the Attic and a little more of Dom's "life" in the Attic. And for someone, anyone to have said the explosion of the mechanical/electrical mainframe was the signal to Dom in the Attic to try and take down that one. I can accept trying and failing, but not to mention it at all seemed lacking.

My 2 cents.
