AH JUST LOOKING AT THEM MAKES ME SO HAPPY. They are so great!
I will never get over the fact that, in that last cap, they're all, 'Teehee, torturing people for information!'
Me neither! It's just so creepy and adorable.
And I started shipping them early, but I didn't get 'canon!' about it until Spy in the House of Love. With Hearn, it's interesting that he just gets dead whereas Dominic gets shoved in the Attic. And there are other plot reasons for that, because he still has useful information and they need people in the Attic anyway to keep the organization going, but I like to think that it was at least a little bit because she couldn't let him go. Although Dominic is really not going to see it like that, because I think the Attic and death in general is a really interesting point of difference between the two of them - Dominic would rather be dead than in the Attic, both times around, while Adelle seems to put much more emphasis on survival at any cost. AND ALSO, SHE CRIES. LIKE REALLY HARD. So, even if people don't necessarily see it as a sexual relationship, there was really obviously a deep emotional one there. Because if that was just a professional betrayal, she would have been pissed but she wouldn't have cared that much. So it's obviously deeply, deeply personal.
And then I think Epitaph One really drove it home for me, because Dominic is so angry and yet it's really clear he's never going to be able to actually kill her. He yelled a lot, especially because I think more than anything he wanted some kind of emotional response from her that he didn't get in A Spy in the House of Love, but at the end of the day I feel like he's going to go right back to doing what she says.
