thoughts on 2x02
Today I re-watched 2x02 Instinct (Or 'That episode when Echo stole a baby and we didn't really care)

And I noticed something I hadn't before pertaining to out Mr Dominic.

Scene with Sen Perrin and his wife (i'm going to paraphrase)

Wife: you've got a source in the NSA?
Perrin: yes but he has gone under ground like so many recently.

IS THIS DOM? Was he accidentally helping Rossum by informing their pet Perrin or is the NSA the only agency that cares about the Dollhouse? Or was it not real at all? An elaborate ruse on Rossum's part, make Perrin think he had an informant but really it was just based on those rumors about DeWitt and her (fallen from grace) Head of Security.

Discuss :)

SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!!! Haha, all I remember was that this line was like my favourite part of the episode because I got to go, "Eeee, Dominic!"

I vote elaborate ruse. Just because I really like the phrase 'elaborate ruse.'

There is nothing like a good elaborate ruse. :D

It's almost as great as a PETTY CHARADE!

(Yeah, this comment is officially the kind that is only allowed to see the light of day because it's the wee hours of the morning and I still have tons of homework to get done before tomorrow and am therefore at this moment a little loopy.)

I don't think it's Dom sending him information. I kinda thought Rossum orchestrated it for their great big plan to plant Senator Perrin into becoming prezident of the world, but I think they used the NSA to make everybody paranoid.

but really it was just based on those rumors about DeWitt and her (fallen from grace) Head of Security.

Rumors? The rumors about them being-- oh, wait. Him being the NSA. Those rumors. Lawlz.

Okay, a theory just cropped up in my brain: what if, Boyd made it look like it was the NSA that's been sending the information to Perrin as part of his test to Adelle-- making it look like Dominic was lying when he told her that he was trying to keep the Dollhouse safe so that whatever vestiges of trust and belief she has on Dom would be obliterated? He saw that even when they're frenemies, they still worked well together (1x11 the ~sexy "torture" scene in the chair). He had to break her somehow, right? (or maybe that's just me and my fic ideas talking).

Instinct is actually the episode that made me like Echo. I liked her conversation with Paul in the empty playground.

We all know there were plenty of rumors circulating around the Tuscon office. :D

Boyd was super jealous of Adelle and Dominic's true love. That is a possibility but with Adelle finding out Perrin was Rossum's anyway kind moots anything that she may have found out before. Or maybe not. She does know how to hold a grudge.

Was it Boyd who was sending information to Ballard?

I really liked it this when I watched it but first time round I didn't at all. I think the moment I fell in love with Echo was after she had run away from the Dollhouse.

Maybe he wanted to mess with her a bit? To see how she'd react?

I do believe that it was Boyd whose been sending information to Ballard. Gods, I just want someone to explain this (because if no one wants to do it, I will... but that would mean epic planning and some rewatching... I don't mind the rewatching, but I'm kinda hesitant with the epic planning. lawlz)

The scene where Paul dragged her out of the police station and she was screaming about her baby? It brought tears to my eyes and thought, 'Oh, Eliza. Why aren't you consistent all the time?'

OH Boyd, you sneaky sneaky man!! :D

I am doing a rewatch!! We could epically plan the intricacies together and then you could put them in awesome prose forms! :D

Yes, that scene was excellent. I don't think I was in the right mood first time round. But Eliza is fantastic at those raw moments of emotion ala epitaph two and loosing Paul ♥ that was beautiful!

I remember hearing that line and thinking "OMG, LAURENCE!"

Although, I think it probably can't have been him - I think Dominic's very big on keeping the technology a secret, to make it more easily contained, whereas Perrin really wants to make it a public thing. Although I'm sure the NSA and Perrin both have the same goal of wresting the technology away from a private company, so who knows?

I remember thinking at first it was Dominic. But then, that wouldn't really make sense because his job was the ensure the stability/security of the Dollhouse program. Not take it down.

An elaborate ruse on Rossum's part, make Perrin think he had an informant but really it was just based on those rumors about DeWitt and her (fallen from grace) Head of Security.

I think you might have it right. Rossum, knowing that they really had an NSA agent undercover, could have just made Perrin think he was his mole. That is, after Dominic was found out. His presence was convenient, so use that story to build up Perrin's memories.
