Dollhouse rewatch - 1.11 and 1.12
1.11 - Briar Rose and 1.12 - Omega

I'm not the host which is why this is late but I do have a few rewatch questions--

1. How awesome was Enver Gjokaj's take on Reed's take of Laurence Dominic? (answer: very)
2. And how awesome was the part when DeWitt and Dominic realized who sent the flash drive to them? Did you notice the part where Topher and Boyd didn't want to take the word of a drugged Victor!Dominic about the password, but Adelle was?
3. If ASitHoL did not happen and Dominic was still Head of Security, how would the incidents in 1.11 and 1.12 be different? Would Ballard have had an accidental death by the end of the season?
4. How much do you think Victor!Dominic contributed to Saunders' realization that she was an Active? If Dominic hadn't said 'whiskey' would she have reacted differently to Alpha's "have you always wanted to be a doctor?" question?
5. Any DeWitt/Dominic head!canons at this point? Abandoned plot bunnies, whatnot?

Feel free to discuss anything about the episodes.

Any favorite scenes? Favorite lines?

I love that scene with the drugged Victor!Dominic and how Adelle prodded what he meant with 'Alpha' as the password while Topher and Boyd were all, "IDK, he's a bit drugged." and Adelle gave them the "shush, let him finish" glare. It reminded me of the scene in Omega where Topher says he's the smartest person in the room, but going back to the imprinting room, he can't figure out what Dominic meant with Alpha (Your smarter with the technical stuff, Topher).

All of Alan Tudyk's scenes before his Alpha reveal. I liked his comedic tandem with Agent Helo.

Favorite line--

"Earth gets one day, alright, the other 364 we're-we're-we're cranking the AC in our Hummer and then one day a year, ooh we separate the plastic. You know what I think? I think that once we die out, a couple hundred years, Earth is gonna have a people day, you know, to remember us. One day a year she is gonna laugh and laugh and shake our bones."

"He's not kidding. *We're* not bluffing! I'm bluffing. But the rest of us! We mean business. "

1) For me, Enver Gjokaj was the super surprise talent on the show. It's not just that he can act (and act well) but the way he was able to act others people's characters so phenomenally well was astounding. I kept forgetting that his Topher wasn't actually Topher. His Laurence Dominic was excellent as well!

2) I love that my babies still could have an awesome working relationship while one is in the attic and the other is still sporting a gun wound. Say what you want about their personal relationship at that time, they still work together better than anyone else in the Dollhouse. When asked about the password for the document, he replies with ‘Alpha’ but the others don’t believe him, aside from Adelle who orders them to try it anyway, convinced that the information is good. Interesting coming from someone not willing to believe his methods or intentions regarding the Dollhouse not so long ago.

3) I definitely think that Ballard would have been met with an unfortunate end if Dominic was still in charge. Especially if he still had made it into the Dollhouse with Alpha and alerted the authorities to the building. I really don't think he could have talked his way out of that and Dominic could have handled the outside pressure by being domineering and his NSA contacts. I don't know how it would have affected the rest of the seasons/series but I think with Dom still in charge, Rossum taking over the Dollhouse would have definitely gone more in Adelle's favour (....Harding may or may not have ended up dead at the end of that arc as well....just saying.)

4) I think Dominic definitely planted the seeds in her mind or at least was beginning to confirm a few of her suspicions. She tried to brush it off with "he's asking for a drink" but as soon as she encountered Alpha, she couldn't ignore it any more.

5) I don't know if I had any head!canons at this point but I know that the interrogation scene made me ship D/D even more (it was the first time he ever called her by name and she looks away. Plus, she also coos in his ear and that was lovely). However, if I did have to say that I had a head!canon for the episode (when it aired), it was that Dominic definitely wasn't the mole in SiTHOL (but Damn if it was an unfortunate set of events for Dom) and Adelle now knows that or at least is now open to the possibility. I though that from when he is administered the drug to make him more receptive to questioning, he's confronted about the package, he responds with “no, we (the NSA) didn’t communicate that way, we used phones” and it’s the throwaway lines that cemented it for me that Dominic really wasn't the mole altering the imprints. Just because the technology was NSA (or resembles NSA) doesn’t mean Dominic was involved (I think he was just as surprised as anyone to find NSA tech in the chair.)

Plus, yay for Alpha being introduced! I love Alan Tudyk. He wasn't what I was expecting for Alpha but I am so glad that I was wrong. He was awesome.

And he had called her naive during their confrontation. That scene was so interesting because of this. It was just... I love it so much.

I think the events in the Perrin arc would have gone differently if Dominic had been in charge. IDK, I think he's more hands on and would make sure that Echo can be contained. I also think Ballard wouldn't be sent to retrieve Mellie. IDEK. Best Head of Security ever.

Lol. It was Boyd. Definitely.

Dom really is a more hands-on Head of Security and I totally agree, I think Echo would have been more contained and not running around the LA area unsupervised for several months. Dom would have had a handle on that so fast! Adelle! Why did you go down a notch for security?!

Lol. It was Boyd. Definitely.

It was totally Boyd! Haha.

She reacted emotionally to Dom's betrayal and picked the nearest, capable guy who could do the job? lol

Also, I made a poll about the Celebration Week. Hope you could answer :D

I know, lol. But poor Adelle (slash-rest-of-the-world) because the best choice (and he really was the best choice, I mean...it's Boyd! Adorable, competent, has morals and knows his stuff)....really backfired.

I had thoughts on these episodes, but then I got caught up in RL. My Januarys are never busy, until this year. Gah! Anyway, thoughts...

1. How awesome was Enver Gjokaj's take on Reed's take of Laurence Dominic? (answer: very)
Beyond! I mean, wow, does he ever channel Reed's intensity, his mannerisms, his damn voice. Don't even ask about his Topher (I couldnt help it, I read ahead) I swear his hand gestures alone sold the character, the rest was over the top brilliant. Why he isn't acting in everything ever is a mystery to me.

2. And how awesome was the part when DeWitt and Dominic realized who sent the flash drive to them?
Complete minds-in-sync moment!
Did you notice the part where Topher and Boyd didn't want to take the word of a drugged Victor!Dominic about the password, but Adelle was?
Not only did she take his word for it, but she knew when he was telling the truth but not all of the truth - she knew him well enough to draw out the whole 'greek letter alpha' part.

3. If ASitHoL did not happen and Dominic was still Head of Security, how would the incidents in 1.11 and 1.12 be different? Would Ballard have had an accidental death by the end of the season?
Very different. He would have caught the whole sitch with Mellie/November and would have neutalized Paul right good. Although Adelle migt have insisted on making Paul useful, and Dom would have gritted his teeth and done it. Still, there would have been no Alpha situation, which would have been good for the House, yet bad because Alan Tudyk is awesome. Medicinal carrots!

5. Any DeWitt/Dominic head!canons at this point? Abandoned plot bunnies, whatnot?
I think that I had expected them to put Dom into his body, but the fact that she put him into Victor (ignoring the part where Victor is the only male doll we knew) was kind of symbolic - Roger and all. I also had this vision of her telling Boyd *not* to use Dom's actual body because it upset her, the idea of seeing him again.

As for my favourite moment? Medicinal Carrots! and everything else involving Alpha. His transition over those scene snippets in Dr. Saunders' office was so good.

Close second, strangely enough, was when Madeline was released from her contract. I thought the whole cast was excellent in that scene, even though it was kind of over-the-top schmoop.
